Only 9 days until our trip to Kenya. I don’t know why I didn’t mention this here earlier, but Jennifer and I are going to take an extra suitcase each filled with stuff for the kids in Kenya. Last Wednesday I posted a list of the things you can donate on the Kenya Trip Facebook group.
We’ve already received a lot of great stuff. Including:
- 100+ cross necklaces
- 2 coloring books
- 6 kids flip-flops
- 14 pair of black dress shoes
- 2 boxes of crayons, plus 25 boxes of 4 crayons
- 6 clean, small stuffed animals
- 11 sets of juggling balls
- 1 kids DVD bible
- A bunch of “Jesus loves me” bracelets
Huge thanks to Korin, Cindy, and the other generous people who donated those things! You guys are awesome!
My 8 year old daughter, Ainsley, also went through her room and decided to donate some of her shoes and stuffed animals. (See the pic above) We are so proud of her!
There are still some things you can donate for us to take on the trip.
- Small air pumps (for inflating soccer balls we already have)
- Kids shoes and flip-flops (in particular the kids need black dress shoes for school)
- Socks (any color)
- Bibles in English and Swahili (the smaller the better)
- Coloring books (Bible stories would be best)
- Children’s books (again Bible stories would be best)
Jennifer and I will be around Cypress Meadows after both services this Sunday if you have things you’d like to give for the trip. If you’d like to help cover the extra $50 per bag the airline charges, that’s another option.
Other Trip Happenings
I had this grand idea that I would start blogging daily this week, so I could share with you all that stuff that’s been going in preparation for our trip to Kenya. Then life got in the way. So, I’m going to have to just give you the bullet point version.
–Tuesday, Jennifer and I loaded up all 3 kids at 7:30 AM and headed over to the FL heath dept. office on the east side of Tampa because that was the closest place that had the yellow fever vaccine. 40 minute drive over, 2 hours waiting, 3 minutes for the shots themselves, 40 minute drive back. Glad that’s over.
–Friday, our flights got canceled for the second time. I kid you not! I called because I hadn’t received an email confirmation, and the rep said, “I’m seeing that reservation has been cancelled. Are you saying you didn’t cancel it?” Fortunately, I were able to get the same flights re-reserved within 15 minutes while on the same call.
–Molly Bail, who along with her husband Joe is leading the effort to build the orphanage, is here in the states and faced her own airline reservation disaster this week. She booked her return flight for the end of July with the understanding that she would be able to change her flights if necessary. Then she tried to change her flights so she would be back in Kenya while we’re there and the airline told her it would cost an extra $7,000. (Never mind the fact that she could get 3-4 round trip tickets for that price). It seemed like she was out of options, but a lot of people prayed, and I don’t know all the details, but I know she’s got a flight back on Tuesday.
That’s all for now. Thanks for your prayers and support!
